On Tuesday 17th September, the Oxford centre had a visit from Charlotte and Robin Morrison. They brought their 1970 Aston Martin DB6 and gave the members the opportunity to look around the vehicle to see some of the modifications it had undergone to allow the couple to recently drive it through the Andes.
Event report
Modifications included a larger fuel tank: as on some legs of the journey there were many miles between fuel stops; or they would find fuel stations mysteriously found to have run out of fuel only to later at the hotel have an enterprising group of people arrive with fuel for sale! They also had the compression ratio of the Aston reduced to allow for fuel that may not be as reliable as we have in the UK.
Charlotte and Robin showed the route they took from the top of Columbia to the bottom of Chile, following the Andes mountain range. They also showed pictures and video of the trip with stories of what happened.
All in all, a fascinating talk that the members thoroughly enjoyed.
